I am Pavel Benov, "Kigami", the 23 year-old composer behind the soundtrack of Earthrise. At six I began playing the piano and as I grew older I began experimenting with friends in homes and studios playing mostly punk and hardcore music. I was 16 when I discovered computer synthesized music and started exploring styles such as drum and bass (DNB), intelligent dance music (IDM), ambient, breakbeat, and many more.
The music that you will hear in Earthrise was actually created in my home studio, aka my very own room. Earthrise's soundtrack is mostly a fusion of experimental ambient/industrial with the spice of IDM. I listen to everything from jazz to techno and DNB to punk and hardcore - when it comes to music, there are no limits for me because every style has something exciting.
I believe that inspiration comes from life experiences, whether they are large events or small instances. Recently I was working on a background song - aiming for something grimy, yet chill - for a dark area in Enterra, when a giant cockroach started crawling on my hand. Once I recovered from the irony of the moment, I named the song "Cockroach Invasion" and even incorporated insect sound effects into the track.
Admittedly, I was never much of a gamer until I joined the crew at Masthead Studios, but now some of my favorite genres include RPG, FPS and Adventure Quests. In addition to being Masthead's resident composer, I'm also studying sound engineering and looking forward to more opportunities to leave my musical fingerprint on the gaming world.
